This song is one of the first memories I have in life. I was 4 years old when it came out. Thank you Johnny Nash for giving me such a beautiful first-memory! Thank you Midnight Special!
I was a young teenage when this came out. Loved it then, still love it today. Heard this at the end of a series I was watching, and I’m telling you, I needed this beautiful uplifting song!!
This song saved my life. A teacher wrote the lyrics on the chalkboard and I read them right about the time I no longer wanted to exist. I was a young teen trying to survive domestic violence and had given up on life. Somehow I think the teacher knew this about me. When I read the lyrics with fascination, I turned to look at him and he looked at me and nodded in the affirmative. He gave me hope with what he did I and to this day, I feel like he knew this. That was 50 years ago and I thank coach Martinez to this day.
Yes very positive song and I don't know if the positive is from the lyrics or the music or both. This was popular in my high school days and I was attending a new high school and as I was adjusting to a new city and new high school, the people were very friendly and when I hear this song I am reminded of those highlights from my fun friends and fun days in high school. I try not to listen to it too much because it has bittersweet effects on me and high school in the 70's will never be here again.
This was the song my mother heard when she walked out of the courtroom, divorcing my father I remember her telling me that. The night that I quit drinking, this came on the radio, almost 29 years ago.
I loved this song when it first came out back in 1972. The fact that he could hold a note like that for so long always impressed me. Even today, It's still amazing to hear. I was also surprised to learn he sang the theme to the classic cartoon Hercules. One of my favorite cartoons back in the sixties. RIP Johnny.
The only other singers able to do that have now gone back to Jesus: Laura Branigan and Whitney Houston. They're all together now. May they rest in eternal peace.
Of 1972, mom's favorite song. Remember she used to tell me put the volume up when she heard this song. Today February 3rd, 2025 my mom's birthday. She went with the Lord, January 2nd 2004. I miss her. And on her birthday 🎈 l like to hear this song, l can see clearly now" MOM I WISH YOU WERE HERE. R.I.P, MOM ,& JOHNNY NASH.
As a 20 year old Aussie visiting port Arthur Texas in 1972 this song was played in every bar I visited. I still have great memories of the town and the friendly people there that welcomed me there.
Musicians back then were so much more talened. The fact that this guy cloned himself so he could stand in the background and foreground at the same time is so impressive. No green screen or editing. Just pure dedication through cloning. Amazing❤❤
Just wonderful!! 🥰 I had this .45 record growing up, very powerful and inspiring lyrics. Love Johnny’s black leather outfit, snazzy. We can make it now, people!! 😘
Great song .I was talking to someone who went to school in Peckham London when Johnny Nash and Bob Marley turn up and played a concert for the children
Such a wonderful song and with wonderful singer... All these lovely souls has now passed on. But oh yeah and leaving great encouraging messages for all of us .. Don't give up and battle for things will get better in the end.
A little over fifty years ago when I was in high school I saw an Off-Broadway play jn NYC called "The Hot. L. Baltimore". This song closed the last scene of the show. So, whenever I hear it now it always reminds me of seeing that play.
Love this song. You don’t miss a beat! Love your performances Narvel Felts! Wishing you healt, happiness, peace& prosperity in 2025! God Bless you & yours!
I've had a glitch in my brain matrix about this beautiful song. I hadn't thought about it in ages and when it came onto my radar, I got on RUclips expecting the first version to pop up to be the most famous version. "Who was it?" I'm thinking. "Oh yeah, I remember. Carly Simon." No? Well I remember it was definitely a pretty woman with such a lovely voice. "Hmm? No significant female recordings were charting at the time?" Odd. I distinctly remember a female singer and it was a monster hit, all over radio and TV, even featured in commercials. It played on the radio constantly for over a year. Female voice. And I didn't recall a Johnny Nash doing it. I didn't know Bob Marley did it, but I've heard of him of course and like him very much. So not only did Carly Simon never do it, there really weren't any female recordings at the time, _and_ hadn't heard of this very cool-dressed Johnny Nash fella with the amazing voice... Am I thinking of a different song? Or did I just wander in from an alternate timeline?
I remember playing this song over and over again when I was living in Peoria Illinois on 4th Street on my grandmother record player stereo back in the day of 1973
For over fifty years this song has held the test of time. Simple and effective equals a classic song.
The note he holds during the bridge is amazing.

THIS song came out the day I was born
1:16 one of the greatest bridges ever, and that incredible single note "skyyyyyyyy..."
Another thing seems to be missing from today's music is Bridges.. in fact a lot of them don't even know what you're talking about😢
The only other singers able to do that have now gone back to Jesus: Laura Branigan and Whitney Houston.
